Webcast Instructions & Tips

Upon loading the webcast is streamed into a buffer taking 5 -10 seconds for the video to start. This buffer allows for the video to continue if you experience a momentary drop out in your connection to the server.

Default Window Size is shown to the right.
If you are using a high speed connection this is the size window you will see.
(Shown actual size)

This is the window size for dial up. If you are using a high speed connection but only receive the smaller window please see the section below title "Change Your Connection Speed"

Player Controls  *controls are not available for Live Webcasts

Information about your connection and file information is displayed just below the video window on the left.
Buttons to Fast Forward and Rewind.
Seek Button. By clicking and dragging this button you may easily jump ahead or back to a specific time in the file. Once you release the Seek Button the file will again be streamed into a buffer taking 5 -10 seconds for the video to start.
If you would like to pause the Webcast for a short time please use the pause button. Pressing the stop button will disconnect you from the server and reset the starting point to the very beginning.

Launch stand-alone Windows Media Player
Each webcast page features the button below. Clicking on this button will launch Windows Media Player and allow you to increase the size of the video display. It is important to note that this increases the size of the display by magnifying the original file. This means that though larger, the image can become pixilated. You will need to re-enter your team user name and password. The file will start from the beginning, use the Seek Button to jump to a later time in the class session.

Change Your Connection Speed
If you are using a high speed connection but receive a small window (160x120) or the connection speed is displayed as 24 kbits/second please follow the steps below:

Some high speed networks may not allow the initial maximum bandwidth need to quickly start the webcast. This will result in the server viewing your session as a much slower connection and provide
a small video display window.

To correct this you can define your connection speed in Windows Media Player.

1. Click Tools - then Options
(for embedded webcast page, right click on Windows Media Player Window and choose Options)

2. Click button labeled Choose Connection Speed
3. Choose the speed closest to your connection speed over 256 Kbps

Click OK

4. Click OK

You may now reload the webcast forcing the player to use a higher connection speed.
